Frequently Asked Questions
Spinal joint dysfunction is a condition in a verterbral joint that stops working properly. The joint loses proper motion, becomes misaligned (e.g. twisted, tilted), causing inflammation and most importantly – disrupts the nerve closeby. When the nerve is disrupted, it interferes with the ‘communication highway’ between the brain, and the body. The easy way to understand it, is as a traffic jam or roadblock, slowing down traffic flow.
This can cause pain, and more commonly results in a loss of function before any major symptoms are felt. Similar to a tooth cavity- until the cavity actually irritates the nerve, they go silent and unnoticed until detected by a professional.
Commonly spinal joint dysfunction will cause:
• reduced range of motion
• reduced muscle power – as spinal nerves control leg and arm muscles
• reduced reflexes
• reduced sensation which can turn into numbness
• reduced organ function such as digestion and breathing function.
In our thorough examination of the spine and nerve system, we will get a comprehensive view of your condition and then be able to tailor a specific plan for you.
People often come in for:
• Ongoing stress or burnout
• Neck and back pain
• Headaches or jaw tension
• Sleep issues or fatigue
• Nervous system overload
• A general sense that their body isn’t coping well
You don’t need a specific diagnosis to book — if something feels “off”, that’s enough.
If care is appropriate, yes — most people receive gentle chiropractic care at their first appointment.
If more assessment or referral is needed, that will be discussed first.
This of course varies from case to case. It depends on many factors such as:
• history of trauma/ load on the spine
• habits
• age
• your overall health
Most adults with a history of chronic spinal imbalance, can expect to start feeling improvement from chiropractic care within 2-3 weeks.
To stabilise, and improve the underlying condition typically takes 3-4 months, but in severe cases up to 6 months or even 12 months+.
This is because adjusting the spine is a process of retraining the spine out of its old patterns. In the early stages of adjusting, the spine’s tendons, and ligaments will pull the spine back into its rut.
With time and retraining the spine to a more optimal position, the tendons and ligaments will adapt and become accustomed to the new alignment- allowing your mobility, health and vitality to improve.
No. This is a very common misconception.
It is completely up to you how long you choose to benefit from chiropractic care. Just like it is up to you how long you see a dentist, go to the gym, or eat healthily.
Many people we take care of love on-going adjustments, similar to ‘tune-ups’ for a car, to keep you at your best.
This is because people notice with regular adjustments they feel better, sleep better, move well and feel calmer day to day.
Looking after the spine is no different to brushing your teeth, going to the gym, eating well, as soon as you stop doing it, your spine will de-condition.
Most people find adjustments comfortable and often relaxing.
Care is gentle and specific — there’s no forcing or aggressive techniques. Many people notice a sense of ease or calm after their visit.
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily.
There’s no need to change or wear anything special.
Absolutely!
Most adult spinal conditions began from unaddressed childhood spinal dysfunction. If you take a moment to think about simple everyday falls a child has learning to walk, let alone the birth process itself, you can see how much pressure that puts on a small, soft, growing spine.
Children love chiropractic as it feels nice, is gentle, relaxing and we see alot of kids, so make it fun and affordable for the family. Many parents report improved sleep, mobility, and co-ordination in their child with chiropractic care.
Our initial consultation fee is $120.
